Biography of Lesley Berkeyheiser

Ms. Berkeyheiser is principal and founder of The Clayton Group, LLC, an independent health care management consulting company. The Clayton Group specializes in HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) preparation and compliance, business development, and technology conversion projects.

She has over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry. Her HIPAA product creation experience began as content contributor to a web-based HIPAA Gap Assessment Tool. Working with team members, she has subsequently provided training and consulting services for numerous health care providers, health plans and business associates in approaches to HIPAA gap analyses and remediation, and in the use of various electronic compliance tools. She actively participates as Security and Privacy Co-Chair for WEDi SNIP (Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Strategic National Implementation Process), and was past Leader of the Vendor Technologies Interdependencies subgroup. This gives her an extensive knowledge of the current and emerging HIPAA regulations. Ms. Berkeyheiser is a content contributor and creator of the Clayton-MacBain, LLC, HIPAA Privacy Policy and Procedure Templates.

Prior to founding The Clayton Group, Ms. Berkeyheiser was responsible for Business Development for a technological consulting firm, and held senior operational and government relations posts in several HMOs. She has extensive experience in regulatory compliance and in managing the interface among compliance, operations and information systems.

Over the course of her career, Ms. Berkeyheiser has held various academic and societal positions including: Board Member, Officer, and Chair of Pennsylvania's Managed Care Association and NCQA HIPAA Business Associate Certification Steering Committee Member. She has participated in speaking engagements on the issue of Medicaid managed care as well as giving in public testimony regarding healthcare reform and public regulatory review projects. Ms. Berkeyheiser holds a Bachelor of Science degree and attends various non-matriculated Masters level classes. She maintains a Health and Accident Agent License in the state of Pennsylvania and has attained the rank of Fellow at the Academy for Healthcare Management. She is a member of the National Association for Female Executives and also participates as a member of the Board of Directors for PrivaPlan Associates.
